Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users. You can find the actual Insider Preview versions at the end of this post. The stable version of Microsoft Edge is expected to be released on on January 15, 2020.

If you have a bunch of bookmarks in the Microsoft Edge Chromium browser, you might be interested in exporting them to an HTML file. This is extremely useful because you can have a backup of your bookmarks. Also, you can open that file later on some other PC or mobile device where Google Chrome is not installed. You can also import the HTML file in another browser on the same PC or another device. Most mainstream browsers support importing bookmarks from an HTML file. Browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and even the classic Edge app (Microsoft Edge) allow you to do it. Here's how it can be done in the modern Edge browser.

To Export Favorites to HTML File In Microsoft Edge Chromium,

  1. Open the Edge Chromium browser and click on the menu button.
  2. From the menu, select 'Favorites'.
  3. From the Favorites menu, select Manage Favorites. Also, you can use the Ctrl + Shift + O shortcut to open the bookmark manager faster.
  4. In the left pane of the Favorites page, click on the Export favorites link.
  5. Browse for the folder where you want to store the HTML file with your bookmarks and click on Save.

You are done!

What you need to know

  • A toggle for the feature now appears in sync settings.
  • The feature isn't live yet, but will be turned on 'as soon as it's ready,' Microsoft says.

History syncing is nearly ready to test in the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. The feature started showing up, at least as a toggle, in the latest update to the Edge Canary channel (via Richard Hay), though it isn't active yet.

Attention #EdgeInsiders - updates are available for all 3 channels #EdgeCan (80.0.327.0), #EdgeDev (80.0.320.5), & #EdgeBeta (79.0.309.15). Also - check out what has shown up in Sync Settings on #EdgeCan#History#ComingSoonpic.twitter.com/O2tJuZf5Mr

In the browser's sync settings, you'll now find a 'History' toggle listed alongside passwords, settings, open tabs, and collections. Once the feature is live, you'll be able to keep your browsing history synced between Edge on other devices, making for a less fragmented experience.

That consistency between browser instances is part of Microsoft's overall effort to make Edge a seamless experience between platforms. Because Edge is or will be available across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS (and in the future, Linux), Microsoft wants there to be as few barriers as possible to picking up where you left off on any given device. Using Chromium as a base helps to ease that process somewhat, but features like collections are areas where Edge stands out across all platforms.

Microsoft is gearing up to launch the stable version of the new Edge on January 15 for Windows and macOS. At launch, history syncing, extension syncing, and ARM64 support won't be available in the stable version, as Neowin recently reported. However, that the first signs of history syncing have popped up in Canary could mean that it's not far behind.
